What is the General Dental Scheme (GDS)?

The General Dental Scheme (GDS) allow eligible South Australian's to access subsidised dental treatment from participating private dentists. If you hold a current concession card and are referred by SA Dental, you can choose to receive care at our clinic.

GDS covers:

  • comprehensive dental check-ups
  • X-rays and diagnostics
  • Scale and cleanings
  • Fillings and extractions
  • Root canal treatments (if you meet SA Dental criteria)

Tip: Book your appointment early to ensure all treatments are completed within 3 month validity period.

How it works - Step By Step

Eligible adults who hold a current Health Care Card or pensioner card and are approved by SA Dental may receive a form.

The GDS form is only valid for treatment on natural teeth, not dentures.

Some procedures are fully covered by the GDS form, while others require a co-payment up to the maximum listed in your form.

What To Bring To Your Appointment

To ensure a smooth visit, please bring:

  • your current GDS form
  • your current concession or healthcare card
  • Any relevant medical information
  • Payment for any applicable fees outlined on the form

Please check  the date on your card/s to make sure they are still valid.

Receive a GDS form from an SA Dental public clinic
Step 2

Book an appointment at Woodville & Seaton Dental Clinic (within 3 months)
Step 3

Bring your form and concession card to your first appointment
Step 4

We assess your needs and carry out an approved treatment
Step 5

Co-payments may apply depending on services provided
Step 6

We submit your form to SA Dental upon completion

If Your GDS Form Expires

If your GDS form expires before you complete treatment, we must stop treatment until you get a new form from SA Dental.

Tip: Book as soon as possible after receiving your form to avoid delays.
